Emergency Planning Officer

Pride in our Borough: A Borough that works for everyone

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Emergency Planning Officer to join our Emergency Planning and Resilience Team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This new role was created to support the team which has recently expanded to include Corporate Health and Safety.

We are seeking someone with experience of working successfully with a range of stake holders and can support the council in its duty to prepare for and respond to emergencies within the borough.

As an Emergency Planning Officer, you will be self- motivated and can work with a high degree of autonomy. This role involves close liaison with a range of organisations including local authorities, parishes, voluntary organisations, and emergency services.

You will need the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage some degree of pressure. On occasion, the Emergency Planning and Resilience Team must respond immediately outside of working hours to the demands of an emergency.

You will work as part of the team to provide advice, administrative support and ensure the wellbeing of residents and communities during an emergency. To do this you will:

  • Work with partners in the Kent Resilience Forum to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies.

  • Work with internal and external stake holders to ensure incident response plans, training and exercising is aligned with the council’s objectives and duty within the Civil Contingencies Act.

  • Ensure the resilience of the council’s services by supporting the maintenance of a business continuity management system to protect the provision of critical services to residents.

  • Support the maintenance of the council’s Major Emergency Plan.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with excellent communication and organisational skills. The Emergency Planning Officer will deputise for the Emergency Planning and Resilience Manager and be required to advise and support senior officers of the council in their response to emergency incidents. The EPO may be required to attend the Local Emergency Planning Group meetings and other meetings of the Kent Resilience Forum.

The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers and stake holders adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.

Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

Working for Maidstone, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience within an organisation that prides itself on supporting its staff.

This is a full-time position on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
