Social Workers (CAAS Team)

West Berkshire Council: Keeping children at the centre

Our children’s social care workforce is expanding.

We have an opportunity for multiple Social Workers on a 18 month fixed term contract. These positions are within our Assessment part of our Contact, Advice and Assessment Service (CAAS):

Who we are:

CAAS is the ‘front door’ for West Berkshire’s Children and Family Services and covers all of West Berkshire.  This highly motivated and enthusiastic team is based in our Newbury office alongside our multi agency partners in MASH/Triage, Early Response Hub, Assessment, and our My Family First early intervention service.

The team feeds into our two locality safeguarding teams in the West and East of the area, as well as our Children with Disabilities Team.

Our commitment is to ensure that children are safe and protected through the early identification and assessment of risk and need, providing families with timely interventions.  This process identifies appropriate services to help children and their families achieve their potential and make a positive difference to their lives.

We are currently an expanding service and these fixed term roles are part of an increased investment in our Children’s Social Care Workforce.

Do you have a passion for social work? Are you an experienced and inspiring social work practitioner with Child Protection experience? Are you committed to providing excellent services to vulnerable children and families? Do you want an employer who will support you to have the career that is right for you?

If this is you - then West Berkshire Council is the place for you!

We are looking for experienced and dynamic children’s social work practitioners. In the role you will champion the rights of our children and young people whilst ensuring they remain supported and safeguarded.

You will be a vital enabler of improving outcomes for children, young people and their families. Working directly with our partner agencies and combining expertise to support our Family Safeguarding Model within our ‘front door’ of West Berkshire Children’s Services.

We are a bustling town within a rural community and our children and families reflect the diversity and vitality of our town. We are a town that embraces innovation and change, and we can offer you exciting and rewarding practice opportunities.

We want Social Workers who bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to their work with children, young people and families. You must be driven and ambitious, both for yourself and for children, young people and families. You must also be an enthusiastic team player who understands the vital role of supportive teams.

As a Social Worker you will help us ensure that children and their families receive the right level of support when it’s needed and you will have the opportunity to contribute to the wider work of this innovative service in improving outcomes for children and young people. You will be responsible for progressing statutory assessments across the threshold of need and you will be supported by a highly experienced and established management team.

The benefits for you:

These offer quick access across southern England with London, Reading, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Oxford and Swindon all within an hour's drive of the area. It is a diverse area incorporating the best features of town and attractive countryside living.

Our staff are our greatest asset; you will have access to regular reflective supervision, outstanding training opportunities and the ability to develop your professional skills and interests.

If you are a highly skilled and experienced social worker and are committed to delivering high quality services to children and their families, this is the opportunity for you.   You will be contributing to our drive for continuous imporvement through innovative practice, high support and high challenge, and will experience working across the threshold of need.
