Electoral Services Officer

Hertsmere is located in Hertfordshire – 13 miles from Central London and within the M25. The Council Offices are situated in Borehamwood within Zone 6 and with a direct rail link into London Kings Cross St. Pancras.  The area is an internationally renowned centre for film and television production, home to BBC Elstree and Elstree Studios.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to build your career in Elections and Electoral Registration. You will join a small team who are responsible for compiling the electoral register and running the local and national elections and referenda in the borough of Hertsmere.  You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills, and get involved in projects such as implementing boundary reviews and responding to new legislative proposals such as voter ID and votes for life.

We are ideally looking for someone who is qualified and has experience in a similar role, however we are also happy to consider applications from those both wishing to start their career in Electoral Services and those wishing to gain the AEA Certificate in Electoral Administration.  All candidates should have excellent IT skills, good attention to detail and possess the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. You will need to have the confidence and skills to effectively allocate work to temporary elections staff.

Experienced candidates can expect a starting salary of between £24,979 and £28,285. Trainees who can demonstrate a keen interest in Electoral Administration and a willingness to learn, will start on £22,264 and will receive funding and support to obtain the AEA certificate in Electoral Administration.

This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week). Election times will be busy and the post-holder will be expected to work outside normal hours and including weekends. You will also accept that there are restrictions on leave prior to an election.  Limited home working will be available in this role.
