Housing Options Officer (Older People)
2 year fixed term post
Starting salary £27,669pa with potential progression to £34,166 pa on achieving designated skills and experience
37 hours per week
We are looking for a dedicated, motivated individual to join our Housing Needs Team, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s Team of the Year in both the 2019 and 2020 Employee Recognition Awards.
You will be part of the council’s Housing Allocations Team, specialising in providing housing advice and assistance to older and/or vulnerable residents who are living in the private sector and who need help and support to make their current home suitable or to find the right long term housing option
You will help residents to improve their situation by accessing the help they need, so they can remain living independently for as long as possible or support them to find and move to suitable alternative accommodation, if their current home is not suitable. You will build links to partners in relevant sectors such as health and social care and you will develop a network of potential housing providers in the private and public sector.
You will demonstrate your ability to problem solve, be empathetic and to deal with emotionally challenging situations.
We are looking for someone with:
- An interest in providing high quality public services to the local community
- Experience of working in housing or a similar setting, such as social care, providing excellent levels of customer service.
- The ability to negotiate with relevant parties to find solutions to complicated situations
- Experience of working with several IT systems and ability to learn new systems to a high standard
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- An interest in helping older and/or vulnerable people.
