Do you have passion and experience at the sharp end of food safety and have the right mindset to think differently? Do you recognise food safety isn’t all about regulation and enforcement? If so, you might be just the person we are looking for.
We are looking for an experienced, forward-thinking professional to join our Food and Safety team, working in an area which has a historic city, coastal town and rural area of outstanding beauty.
Our Food and Safety team is working supportively and innovatively with businesses not only to ensure consumer confidence and safety, but also a fair and positive business environment. For this we need the right person matching our ambitions.
We want to find someone who is passionate about helping others to operate a successful and safe food business and willing to work in a dual role of business advice and regulatory compliance. The person we are seeking is dynamic and self-motivated, who not only understands food safety regulation but understands how food businesses work and the challenges they face.
Ideally you will have worked in the food industry and your knowledge will be an advantage when delivering well-established services such as providing advice and support to food businesses, investigating food complaints, conducting routine food hygiene inspections, investigating infectious disease cases, organising food sampling, and supporting our Port Health service. The role will also include some Health and Safety work such as accident investigation and supporting our Covid response service.
You will have a sound knowledge of food hygiene and safety and already hold a specialist qualification in food safety inspection or regulation such as the Higher Certificate in Food Control.
The post is based at Morecambe Town Hall working 22.2 hours per week over flexible and variable patterns of working hours, but we have adjusted to a blend of home and officer working over the last 18 months, and this is likely to continue.
Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
We are a Forces Friendly employer, and an Armed Forces Covenant committed organisation. We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces community.
Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
