Fire prevention is a Department within the Community Protection Directorate.  Teams within Fire Prevention include Fire Prevention, Hertfordshire Home Safety Service, Youth Engagement and Volunteer teams.


We are looking for a highly motivated, client focused, enthusiastic individual to join our team to support our Prevention Department.  You’ll be a team player with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively both orally and in writing with staff and clients at all levels.  You will hold a Category B driving licence – max 6 penalty points.  You will have a geographical knowledge and the ability to travel throughout the county with the minimum of supervision.  You will be able to undertake a variety of DIY tasks using both power and hand tools.


Duties are varied and include: Providing advice to residents on both fire and home security.  You will undertake an initial assessment of needs including home safety checks and developing fire plans.  Fitting locks on external doors and windows and other security equipment where necessary for those residents who have been victims of crime.  Providing and fitting security solutions on fencing or walls.  Fitting smoke and carbon monoxide alarms including solutions for those who are profoundly deaf or hard of hearing.  Fitting of fireproof letterboxes.  Referring and signposting very high-risk individuals/properties to partner agencies.  Advising on falls prevention, securing carpets, fitting handrails.  Maintain accurate records of activity and complete appropriate paperwork.
