An exciting 18 month fixed term opportunity for a Senior Engineer in the Traffic & Safety Team has arisen to strengthen the service to help deliver the high-profile people-friendly streets programme and carry out the Council’s Traffic & Safety function.
Islington is an exciting and changing part of Central London experiencing extensive and fast-paced transformation of its transport environment. The Council has started implementing its new transport strategy by making changes to streets and public spaces aimed at encouraging more active lifestyles, reducing road danger, and reducing the impact of transport on local air pollution and climate change. These changes to Islington’s streets and public spaces are being delivered at an accelerated pace to respond to the changing demands in the way people travel due to the current public health emergency.
The Traffic & Safety Team are recruiting to a Senior Engineer role to help deliver our school streets and people friendly streets programme, as well as other work in managing road safety and parking in the borough. We are looking for an experienced engineer or a senior engineer experienced at delivering a variety of civil engineering, traffic restrictions and parking schemes who is ready for the challenge of working on such an exciting and transformational works programme.
The work is demanding, challenging, and exciting, and will give you the opportunity to develop and work within a leading and forward thinking traffic team, who are involved in some trailblazing innovative schemes in the borough.
We are looking for a dynamic, positive, and hardworking individual, with relevant experience and expertise, to help deliver a fast-paced and ambitious programme.
You will be a key player in the design and implementation of a number of people-friendly streets projects, such as proposals for new Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, Traffic schemes, Parking and Public Realm schemes. This will include working with Transport for London, neighbouring boroughs and internal stakeholders to coordinate their transport projects with Islington’s.
To be responsible for the supervision of Engineers and Technicians involved in the delivery of our works programme, including the formulation and prioritisation of work programmes, and establishing and achieving of realistic targets.
Part of the role involves working with elected Members, senior council officers and external organisations.
You will have experience in the engineering field, report writing, project management, budget management, and joint working across different technical disciplines and across complex organisations.
You will line-manage a number of staff from Engineer to Apprentice level.
