Community Action Manager

Waltham Forest saw a remarkable response from our communities during the pandemic. New groups were formed, voluntary sector organisations adapted and over 4,000 resident volunteers came forward. The Council wants to drive innovative new approaches to community participation and volunteering, building on the community response to Covid-19.

As a Community Action Manager, you will play a leading role in driving the council’s priorities for volunteering and participation within our communities and building the capacity and resilience of the local voluntary and community sector.

You will play a leading role in connecting communities to new volunteering and participation opportunities. This will include brokering new volunteering opportunities, and developing new projects that pioneer innovative approaches to participation.

You will work closely with the voluntary and community sector to build their capacity through the provision of funding and support. This will include administering community grants schemes, supporting one-off events, and supporting organisations to create ongoing participation opportunities.

You will be expected to lead community-focused delivery of strategically important projects, including the coordination of community research and new community-based projects linked to the council’s strategic priorities.

The successful applicant will have a positive, can-do attitude and approach to supporting the council to deliver their priorities.

You will have excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, and the ability to work creatively and positively to find solutions to problems. You will be confident, open, and outgoing to build lasting relationships across the Council and with our community partners.

You will have experience of working in a strategic or delivery role working with the voluntary sector and community groups. You will be experienced in developing and delivering projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

If you are a committed leader, with a passion for working with communities we would love to hear from you.
