More Information

Market and Events Manager

Having recently celebrated the 800th anniversary of our Market in Market Harborough, with a Royal visit, this is an exciting opportunity to lead Harborough District Council’s high-profile Market and Events function. Sitting within the Council's dynamic Economy and Business service, this post offers the opportunity to make a real difference at both a strategic and local level and contribute to the Council's vision of having a vibrant, safe and prosperous District.

Harborough Market is a thriving and award-winning small market which operates six days per week (Tuesday - Sunday) and supports up to 150 traders and, pre-Covid, attracted over 700,000 visitors per year.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person with strong business acumen and experience of events management to lead our Market and Events service. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the service is effectively and actively promoted by engaging with existing and new audiences, driving growth in footfall and attracting high quality businesses to locate within the Harborough Indoor Market. They will also be responsible for creating an environment where small businesses can thrive by developing and managing a range of effective business support for new and established traders.

The role also has responsibility for developing and promoting a comprehensive programme of town centre events, both directly delivered and through external providers, so experience of managing a range of large and small events and an ability to manage simultaneous projects is essential.

Experience in a similar role would be an advantage, but more important would be a combination of excellent customer care, leadership and organisational skills, coupled with experience of managing multiple high quality public events, and an understanding of the retail sector and how to develop commercial services within a public sector environment.

You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends, taking account of the needs of the operation of the service.

For an informal discussion about this exciting role, please contact David Wright, Economy & Business Service Manager on (07593) 552150 or

All applicants should be aware that any employee who is at threat of redundancy at the time of a position being advertised, will have priority status.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 9am on Monday 13th December 2021.
