Contracts Engineer

The Contracts Engineer for the Falkland Islands Government will be responsible for overseeing all capital works and other assigned projects within the Public Works Department.

The Role

The role will involve assisting the Director of Public Works with the management of a variety of capital infrastructure projects, such as utilities improvements, land development projects, road and drainage upgrades and housing construction.  The department seeks continuous improvement initiatives and the provision of management systems, processes and structures in line with corporate policies.

The Person

The postholder will be responsible for managing a variety of contracted works in the Islands.  You will be leading the management of contracted projects delivered in a variety of ways, including partnering.

You should hold a recognised civil engineering degree, or similar, and have a minimum of 5 years post-graduation experience in a similar post, preferably including project development and CAD.

In addition, you should have good contractual awareness, and a good knowledge of contract forms including NEC, FIDIC and JCT.  You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and hold a valid driving licence.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
  • Starting Salary - £42,457 up to £48,720 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £57,426.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable).
  • 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave plus 11 government and public holidays.
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and any recognised dependents residing with you at post both at the beginning and end of contract, along with additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract.
