Assistant Curriculum Manager - Mental Health and Wellbeing

The starting salary for this role is £15,636 per annum and is based on a 18 working hour week, pro-rata to £31,273. 

This is a 12 month, fixed term contract with a requirement to be available on Wednesdays.

Surrey Adult Learning (SAL) provides a wide range of part-time day and evening courses to adults. Most courses are community learning, but we have a growing provision of courses leading to formal qualifications. SAL makes an important contribution to Surrey County Council’s Community Vision for Surrey in 2030 and Surrey’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join the Wellbeing Curriculum team and make a difference to the lives of those who experience mental health issues. As a confident, emerging or experienced leader, you’ll oversee the development and growth of this curriculum to ensure quality and compliance in line with Service and Ofsted expectations.

You will assist the Curriculum Manager for Outreach and Healthy Living by managing and growing the programme and providing support to the tutor team. You will also be required to work with assistant curriculum managers from other areas to co-ordinate shared resources and promote progression across the service.

This is an exciting opportunity to:

  • Work with the Curriculum Manager to develop a broad course offer guided by the curriculum intent to support learners with mental health issues
  • Help learners with mental health issues build confidence, enhance wellbeing and engage in their community including, carrying out information, advice and guidance appointments
  • Appointing, supporting, managing, and inspiring tutors to deliver a high-quality learning programme to Ofsted standards
  • Work with the Customer Service Team and Centre staff to organise the programme of courses
  • Develop links with other mental health organisations, promote awareness of the provision and build partnerships

This post is based at the Woking Centre. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and venues will be a necessity, so the post- holder will be a required car user. There will be occasional evening and weekend work.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • A teaching qualification and relevant experience of teaching or working with adults with mental health issues
  • Experience of a formal observation process aligned to an Ofsted inspection framework and/or other quality assurance processes in an educational setting
  • Experience of managing own workload, using your initiative, prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines  
  • Building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholder
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and IT skills
