Graduate Solicitor Apprentice

Graduate Solicitor Apprentice

Full time (30 months fixed contract)

Salary £23,480 per annum

Are you a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual? We are offering an aspiring solicitor an opportunity to complete their journey to becoming an admitted Solicitor. Our successful candidate will be confident, positive, articulate and capable of working under pressure with a can-do attitude.

Our dynamic in-house legal service provides legal advice and support in a wide range of areas including property, litigation, housing, licensing, planning and contracts. Guildford Borough Council offers a comprehensive period of recognised training, covering all aspects of local government law and practice whilst working in an exciting and challenging environment, bringing about real change in the community.

You will be working with a wide range of clients in a range of contentious and non-contentious areas. We anticipate that you will undertake 4 seats during your training period: Property; Contracts; Planning and Litigation. In addition you will be involved with wider Corporate and Governance issues.

You will be located in our offices close to Guildford Town Centre. In addition you will be rewarded with an attractive package of staff benefits which includes local government pension scheme membership, flexible work arrangements, remote working, generous leave, tax savings on child care costs, training and development, annual subscription for professional membership to a professional organisation and staff discounts.

What is the graduate solicitor apprenticeship?

Our graduate solicitor apprenticeship is for those who have completed their law degree, or those who have completed a non-law degree and the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL).

You can apply for a graduate solicitor apprenticeship from the penultimate year of your law degree, or final year of your non-law degree (if you plan to complete a Graduate Diploma in Law, or equivalent).

Our graduate solicitor apprenticeship will support you through the new pathway to qualification by completion of the Solicitors Qualifying Exams (SQE1 and SQE2). This means that you can join us straight from your degree or GDL and start gaining on the job experience, and earning a salary, earlier.

We welcome applications from both law and non-law graduates. You will need to show that you have a strong academic background. You will be required to have obtained your LLB Law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law before the position commences.

Application process

This role will commence July 2022. This application will close on 28 January 2022, and any applications submitted after this time and date will not be considered.

If your application meets our requirements, you will then be invited to the second stage of the process which is a written test in the week commencing 14 February 2022.

If you progress to the third stage of the process, you will be invited to attend an interview in the week commencing 28 February 2022.

Alternative dates for any stage of the assessment process are not available, so please ensure you can attend before applying.
