Joining our new and expanding Legal Services Division, you’ll have the opportunity to deal with some of the most complex and significant prosecutions in this area of regulatory law. You will handle your own caseload of criminal prosecutions, providing advice on investigations, making decisions to institute proceedings and managing any resulting court proceedings. You will also deal with appeals against enforcement notices issued by HSE Inspectors, and conduct Inquest work, liaising with Coroners and other regulators. As the team expands, you can expect to provide legal advice to the organisation on a wide range of topics, including operational and policy issues.
Primarily, we’re looking for criminal lawyers who are quick and keen to learn. Knowledge of health and safety law or experience in another regulatory environment would be an advantage, as would experience of instructing external legal providers and experts – but neither is essential.
A qualified Barrister or Solicitor, you will preferably have some experience of prosecuting. You’ll have strong analytical skills and sound practical judgement, coupled with an ability to communicate in a clear, effective and influential manner. You’ll be a team player who can manage a busy caseload and deliver to tight timescales. An ability to build, maintain and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and other prosecutors is important.
