PLANNING OFFICER AT FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT; SALARY £47,156 to £58,248 inclusive of 25% gratuity; starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience

Although a small population the pace of development is high, including for major Government infrastructure projects, new employment development and new housing. You will be a key member of the team with a focus on all aspects of development management and the determination of all planning applications, including but not limited to EIA development, national infrastructure projects, employment development, small housing developments and householder applications.
You will support the Head of the Planning and Building Services in the review of the development plan as well as ongoing legislative and procedural improvements and develop the work of the Historic Buildings Committee.
Ideally you will have a wide range of development management experience covering all aspects of development management functions. You must have experience in preparing committee reports and presenting to committees. You will assist in providing a high quality, customer-focused planning service delivering timely and quality decisions in the processing of planning applications and pre-application enquiries.
With good communication and interpersonal skills, you will be well-organised, proactive and have a flexible approach. As part of a small team you will need to enjoy being hands-on with all aspects of the service, including interaction with everyone, from Members of the Legislative Assemble to the general public.
- Significant post-qualification experience in Planning/Development Management.
- Degree or post graduate qualification in planning (or equivalent) recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute.
- Working towards or already a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, ability to produce reports for senior management and public committees.
- Experience of working clearly and collaboratively with service users including members of the public.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities.
- Valid manual driving license.
- 2 to 4 Year Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £47,156 to £58,248 inclusive of 25% gratuity; starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience

Planning & Building Services
A small, friendly department in Stanley, Planning and Building Services delivers statutory planning and building control functions for the Falkland Islands. We also facilitate The Historic Buildings Committee and various grant schemes.
Development & Commercial Services
The Development & Commercial Services directorate is responsible for the development of ‘Place’ across the Falkland Islands, ensuring that the activities of Planning, Development, Regeneration, Leisure Services, Corporate Programmes and Procurement operate in a co-ordinated manner to efficiently and effectively enable the achievement of the Government’s priorities and successful delivery of the National Infrastructure Plan.
