Elections Assistant

We are seeking to recruit a reliable, well organised and enthusiastic person to join our small and friendly team as an Election Assistant, helping to deliver elections and electoral registration activities on behalf of the Electoral Registration Officer and Returning Officer. 

As a member of the Election Team within Democratic Services, you will be able to deal confidently with members of the public, candidates and agents, demonstrating a high level of political awareness and the need for neutrality. This is a politically restricted post. 

The postholder will be expected to develop a good knowledge of elections and electoral registration, be able to work to tight deadlines and have a positive attitude to teamwork.  The postholder must also have excellent IT skills, and the ability to use the Xpress Register and Xpress Management systems would be an advantage but not essential.

Election activities are usually based at Lancaster Town Hall, but there are also periods of working at home.  The ordinary hours of work for this position are 37 per week, but availability to work extensive hours on elections days and whatever hours are necessary in the evenings and at weekends in the run up to an election is essential.

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
