More Information

Finance Specialist

Folkestone & Hythe is an extraordinary place to live, work and visit. With an established arts and cultural hub and unrivalled regeneration, including the Garden Town Otterpool Park, the area is well connected. With London just under an hour away via the High Speed rail link and access to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel.

While our modern offices are in the heart of Folkestone, with easy access to transport links, local shops, entertainment facilities and the seafront, we have a flexible working culture that supports and encourages remote working where possible. Recognised by Best Companies as an outstanding organisation to work for, we have a real focus on staff engagement, health & wellbeing and development. We also offer a benefits package that includes corporate membership, reward schemes, an Employee Assistance Programme and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Supporting and advising on all finance related activity within the council and our associated organisations, you will be involved in a range of projects and work with a variety of stakeholders. You will assist with processes such as budget setting, monitoring and year-end closedown, as well as undertaking various reconciliations. You will assist in maintaining the council’s Fixed Asset Register and be responsible for VAT tasks including calculating and reconciling the monthly VAT return. You will also provide financial support to the council’s subsidiary company, Oportunitas Limited, including producing reports to present to its Board meetings.

You will need to have relevant experience of working in a financial environment, a good understanding of the relevant legislation, regulations, and the ability to analyse complex financial data to present in a meaningful way to non-financial recipients. Attention to detail and accuracy is of course, also paramount. But above all else, if you’ve got excellent organisation skills, co-ordination skills, are a team player with the ability to operate on your own initiative, and are excited by our large and challenging agenda, then we want to hear from you.
