Job introduction

We are looking to recruit a project manager to work in our Workstyles team in Property & Design.  The role offers a varied, interesting and diverse workload, working with colleagues across the council to deliver an ambitious programme of change, exploring and implementing future ways of working and using property to drive greater collaboration and innovation between teams and partners. 

It is an exciting and interesting time to be joining the team, with high-profile projects about to enter their delivery stage, including the largest regeneration scheme the city has seen in decades.

Fixed term for: 12 months

In light of COVID19, the way the council operates is changing. The Workstyles Team is leading work to modernise the organisation's workplaces and respond to this unprecedented challenge. You will be a key member of the team, managing projects that will deliver the future ways of working for the organisation, and meet critical corporate priorities relating to housing, social value and carbon reduction. You will also act as a Business Partner supporting directorates of the council to change and modernise.  

As the successful candidate you will have demonstrable experience of developing and leading project teams, successfully advising and negotiating with senior management, planning and managing projects in a change management environment to achieve agreed outcomes, delivering presentations to audiences and speaking with conviction, challenging the ‘status quo’ with authority but at the same time with respect and understanding of other parties’ point of view, applying IT&D and Human Resource solutions, providing a Business Partner service to a large and complex organisation, and using Microsoft Office and other digital resources. 

There's a lot to do, and we need someone who is passionate about making change happen, is comfortable working in a complex political environment, and has a proven track-record of providing excellent project management and acting as a role model for staff, managers, partner agencies and stakeholders on change and improvement.  You will have a degree or similar management qualification and be an accredited PRINCE2 practitioner or hold a comparable project management qualification or equivalent demonstrable project management experience.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: We may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Please see for more information on the Skilled Worker Visa.

Part office / part home – hybrid -  We offer the opportunity for the suitable candidate to choose to  work in a hybrid way. Your specific working arrangements will be subject to team and service working arrangements already in place alongside Government guidance.  Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
