Planning Assistants

Hounslow is the West London borough with cranes on the skyline, where development is happening, and the challenges and opportunities for planners are immense. You may have passed through it on the plane, train, tube or motorway, but stop and take a look. We have high housing targets to achieve, new schools to place children in and need to create opportunities for employers who want to locate in our well located borough. This must be balanced against green belts, listed buildings, conservation areas and River Thames frontage that need protecting and the boroughs Climate Emergency.

The Planning Assistant is needed to join our busy Development Management and Enforcement team. As well as having your own caseload of planning applications and administrative responsibilities, the planning assistant will work with senior officers on major redevelopment schemes such as the redevelopment of Brentford and Hounslow town centres. The post is a fixed term until 31st August 2023 and would suit students on their placement year from a planning degree course.

Ability to work to organise your time, and to be able to work to tight deadlines with electronic document management systems are essential qualities. As students on a planning degree, you will be expected to have a knowledge of planning legislation and policy frameworks

Our team is award winning and this is our tenth year of taking on placement year students. So far 5 have returned to work for us in permanent jobs. If you need a placement year as part of your studies we can give you the opportunity to gain experience within our busy planning team as part of the diverse and dynamic London Borough of Hounslow, which will help you develop your career

As a planner you will be part of the pilot team to change our ways of working and lead change to move into the new post Covid world of work.

Closing date for the job is 15 May 2022
