More about this employer

Children's Residential Care Worker Academy

We believe our Children need a dynamic, diverse, passionate and resilient group of adults around them to enable them to achieve their full potential.

Working in residential care is very much a vocation and as such we need people from a wide range of backgrounds who can offer the children and young people the diverse, safe and consistent care that they need to achieve in life.

We also recognise there may be people out there who have a desire to work with children and young people but refrain from applying due to not having the experience or qualifications to work in social care.

As an organisation we have taken the above on board and have set up an academy for residential care workers. This is to enable individuals like yourself to start your journey in social care with a program that will enable you to undertake off the job training, hands on experience and mentoring from experienced managers and senior managers. Your working week will consist of a mixture of classroom based training, shadowing, on the job training and work placements in a children’s residential home.

About us:

Hertfordshire County Council have 7 residential Children's homes, these are spread throughout the county and consist of 4 mainstream homes ages ranges 11-18, a disabilities service for children and young people with learning and physical disabilities, a short breaks service and a specialist home for our most complex young people which consist of 3 self-contained homes within one setting offering care a support to one child in each home.

In addition to this we are working on a residential strategy to increase the number of children's homes in county to enable more of our young people to stay closer to home where their links and support services are.

Hertfordshire County Council is an innovative and leading Local Authority, who have:

  • Invested in a residential child care academy
  • Enable our residential care staff to further their career in social care with social work academy and apprenticeship schemes
