The Borough of Welwyn Hatfield is unique, with its foundation steeped in history. It is no surprise it is a place where people want to live and work.

In this high-profile role, you will lead on the council’s governance and information access work. You will need to have a genuine interest in regulatory processes as you will be the corporate lead for Freedom of Information / access to environmental information. This will include evaluation of requests, making decisions on whether to release information or not, educating and informing the Councillors and Officers on statutory duties in this area.

The successful candidate will become a key member of the Governance Services Team ensuring governance policies are in line and kept updated with current legislation and regulatory requirements. You will ensure these policies are communicated and implemented throughout the council. You will also be the council’s designated CCTV coordinating officer and RIPA authorizing officer.

This is a varied and challenging role, you will enjoy interpreting complex legislation and applying it correctly.

This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. This is a small team, so we need a good team player who welcomes and responds positively to change as we are in the process of a council-wide modernisation programme.

This is an exciting time to join the council as we continue our journey of change, modernizing our services for those who live and work in Welwyn Hatfield.

The council have developed a ‘One Team’ approach to working and this relies on each and every person working collaboratively to deliver shared goals. To be a positive influence on this environment, you’ll need to be able to support others and be a genuine team player. In exchange we can offer a competitive salary, a range of flexible working options / hybrid working arrangements and a genuine commitment to support your wellbeing at work.
