Home Improvement Officer

Post No: 4040

Salary: Starting from £16,488 to £19,521 per annum

Grade: Grade 5

Hours: 24 hours per week

Place of work: Portland House

Closing date: 29th May 2022

Duties of the post:

Our Home Improvement Assistance (HIA) team provides support to clients who are vulnerable, or to a family member who is vulnerable to adapt their home to meet their needs, which can be achieved by applying for Disabled Facility Grants or Repair Grant Assistance. We also manage the subsidised Handyman service.

We are looking for a Home Improvement Officer to work within the front line team of the Home Improvement Assistance service, providing advice and assistance to vulnerable and low income homeowners and private tenants across Adur and Worthing.

The Home Improvement Officer will help relevant persons apply for grants administered by the Councils, but will also effectively act as a case manager for the application from referral through to completion of the works. You will work closely with the technical staff within the team and ensure that the application progresses in a timely and efficient manner. The Officer will also help administer the Handyman scheme throughout the Council’s areas.

The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic, well-organised team-worker, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The post will be based in Worthing town centre, but will also require clients being visited in their homes across Adur and Worthing District.  You must hold a full current driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.

Staff are our most important asset and we therefore have a benefit package which reflects our continuing commitment to our employees.  This includes:

  • Generous leave entitlement; a minimum of 25 days + Bank Holiday entitlement

  • Local Government Pension

  • Training & development

  • Occupational Health

  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

  • Flexible working options

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. Staff work in a supportive and safe environment, recognising their responsibility to value and respect each other’s contributions. Standards of conduct must be of the highest level to ensure that no-one is harassed, bullied or victimised. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, staff engagement forums and are keen to hear from applicants from a variety of different backgrounds.
