Active Through Football Project Manager Full Time - Fixed Term for 5 years

Active Enfield Team

The mission of Enfield Council’s “Active Enfield Team” is to increase participation in physical activity, focusing in particular on those people who are either inactive or not very active, with the aim of improving both physical and mental wellbeing.

The Role of the Active Through Football project manager

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Active Enfield Team in a brand-new role, coordinating a programme of physical activity in and around Edmonton. The role will be very much that of a community development worker, building networks and partnerships with grass roots organisations. You will be creative with programme development, listening to the needs of the community through community consultation.

The programme aims to increase levels of physical activity by inactive residents on a long term basis to improve their physical and mental health. We will also provide assistance and training to participants who would like to become qualified and work in the sport and physical activity industry but also other areas of employment.

Initially the project will focus on working with and providing activities for 1) inactive women and 2) adults with mental health difficulties. We have already made contact with several community groups who are keen to be part of this project. You will work closely with these groups to co-develop and co-design sessions they would like to take part in and which will encourage continuing attendance. As the project progresses you will also develop activity sessions for other people in these target groups.

Active Enfield, the Local Authority’s sport and physical activity team is the lead organisation for this project, working with a consortium of partners to ensure a successful project.

Funding for this project has been provided by the National Lottery and is being administered on its behalf by Sport England and the Football Foundation. You will be working closely with Sport England and the Football Foundation.

The role is full time (36 hours per week) over a fixed term period of five years. You will be managed and supported by the Sport & Physical Activity Manager at Active Enfield.

Key aspects of your role will be to;

  • develop relationships with relevant community organisations and work with them to co-develop and co-design activities they would like to take part in
  • set up the programme of activities
  • organise coaches/ instructors for the sessions
  • set up and oversee meetings with the project Consortium and the community organisations involved,
  • set up training and qualifications for participants to enable them to get into work
  • manage the project budget
  • provide regular information and feedback to the project funders.

You will have a good understanding of the challenges our local communities face in becoming physically active and have good links to the local community in Edmonton. There is no requirement for you to have a sports background for this role. The role is likely to require you to undertake occasional evening and weekend work.
