Development Manager

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Planning professional to the lead and manage the Development Management Section at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council.

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council is going through change, and this is an exciting time to join the planning team. We have a new Head of Planning and Planning Policy Manager and are at the early stages of developing our new Local Plan which will go out to consultation in the autumn of this year.  The Development Manager post is key to delivering this change and to balancing growth and constraint in a borough which comprises 70% Green Belt and almost 27% AONB with a diverse range of towns, villages and countryside.

The role will be key in seeking to ensure the Council’s objectives of sustainable growth whilst protecting its natural and historic assets are achieved. With exciting opportunities for major improvement opportunities within Tonbridge town centre and ambitious projects being developed by the Council and other growth initiatives, our Borough is really transforming at pace.

In support of our plans to deliver a highly performing service with performance management and customer service at its heart, we are looking for a manager to play a vital role in shaping how the Council achieves its priorities, adding value to the team and a range of key projects. The role requires someone who has experience of working in a highly performing team and the skills to guide and develop their team to achieve continued success.

You will need to be a member of the MRTPI with a proven track record for delivering a highly performing service and have excellent communications skills. You will need to be an experienced manager who is innovative, supportive, drives change management has a passion for the built form and high-quality development and can work under pressure so that Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council can meet the priorities of its community.
