Environmental Protection Officer


Do you enjoy a varied environmental workload, site visits and protecting the environment? If so, this could be the role for you!


We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to help the Council meet its statutory duties with regards to environmental protection.


The post holder will deal with private water supplies, contaminated land, water quality, private sector drainage and pollution control.


The work involves carrying out site visits, inspections, water sampling, risk assessments, responding to planning applications and the investigation of a range of environmental complaints.


The preferred candidate will have a degree in Environmental Science, or similar subject, (preferably with a pollution-based module) and experience in contaminated land, private water supplies and drainage.


The work will involve the interpretation of scientific data, investigation skills and the service of statutory notices.


You must be able to carry out a range of site inspections in urban and rural locations; carry equipment and undertake sampling in the field; be willing to work outside in all types of weather and be able to work on your own or as part of a team.


You’ll work as part of the Environmental Protection and Drainage Team who deal with flooding, contaminated land, drainage and work closely with the Principal Environmental Protection Officer and Contaminated Land Officer.


It is essential that you can effectively communicate with members of the public and manage confrontational situations.


The job requires that you hold a current full driving licence and have access to a car for use at all times during working hours. We’re looking for a positive and capable person to join our team.


Interviews would be expected to take place in July 2022 for a start in August 2022.


The intention is for the new post holder to overlap with the current officer in order to undertake training and familiarisation with the role.
