Following a successful bid via the Governments Rough Sleeper Initiative fund, East Herts Council is looking to recruit a Rough Sleeper Coordinator post for a fixed period of 3 years. This role involves overseeing both councils’ operational and strategic response to rough sleeping, and working closely with our key homelessness partners from the statutory and voluntary sectors.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
co-ordinating the council’s operational and strategic response to rough sleeping, in conjunction with key homeless partners in the statutory and voluntary sectors with the overall aim of preventing rough sleeping.
supporting verified rough sleepers in East Herts to ensure they have an identified housing solution that meets their needs and supporting them to achieve and sustain them.
working under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 to give advice and assistance to customers in housing need to prevent or relieve their homelessness.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, robust and determined person who shares our commitment to end rough sleeping in East Herts as soon as possible.
You will need to have experience of working with rough sleepers and a current understanding of the reasons that contribute to people sleeping rough. We’re looking for someone who can develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, colleagues and partner agencies from the various support organisations and accommodation providers we work with.
You will need to have the drive and commitment to support an often vulnerable and challenging client group. Excellent communication, influencing and reasoning skills are key, as is the ability to solve problems effectively. You will be expected to plan ahead, organise deadlines and to be able to manage your own workload in a busy, fast paced environment.
The post also involves participating in outreach visits to rough sleepers, chairing multi agency meetings, writing bids for future Government funding, submitting regular monitoring returns to the government, being alert to good practice around ending rough sleeping and identifying service improvements.
A Basic DBS check will be carried out for this post.
