Digital Content Specialist (12 Months Fixed Term)

  • To champion the creation and maintenance of high quality digital content that meets or exceeds the required standards of accessibility and readability.
  • Work with the Council’s service areas to improve web content and promote best practice in content publication
  • Help the service areas to write and publish accessible web content that meets the needs and expectations of our residents. Assess draft content produced by service areas and work collaboratively with them to achieve best possible accessibility and readability
  • Review existing web content; work with service areas to update or remove items that are no longer current or valid
  • Coach & guide service areas through any necessary training and tools
  • Raise awareness within the Council of what makes good web content, with an emphasis on accessibility and readability
  • Proactively use a range of tools and face to face activities to test the user experience
  • Outside of content on the public facing Council website, to assess other content within the Council for compliance with accessibility standards – such as our intranet site, newsletters and other documentation


On the technical and experience side we are looking for some experience of working in a Content Management System (CMS) to create, update and maintain website content. (e.g. using Jadu, Squiz, WordPress, GOSS or similar). Some experience of accessibility testing tools (e.g. Silktide, Sitemorse etc.), and a strong ability in using applications such as Microsoft Office


It’s also vital to have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the confidence to deal with a diverse range of people at all levels, internally and externally
  • A responsive, adaptable and flexible attitude coupled with a true hunger for change and improvement
  • Problem-solving skills and a willingness to challenge the status quo
