The position is for 27 hours per week over 5 days (Monday-Friday)

An opportunity has arisen for a temporary (in the first instance) Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team. The Governors of St. Philip’s CE Primary warmly welcomes applications to join our happy, thriving, inclusive school. 

We are seeking an energetic, skilled and caring practitioner to support children on a 1:1 and small group basis. The Teaching Assistant appointed will provide additional support for learning and support with social communication and behavioural needs. They will work closely with other professionals in Upper Key Stage 2. These positions are fixed term until July 2023 (in the first instance) and are linked to SEND funding. 

The successful candidate must:

  • Be supportive of the inclusive Christian ethos of the school
  • Have confidence in supporting children on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Have experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs  
  • Have a genuine desire to work with children
  • Be enthusiastic, hard-working, with a sense of humour and patience of a saint
  • Be flexible, adaptable and have a positive working attitude
  • Be able to set high expectations for themselves and children
  • Have a willingness to contribute positively to our happy team and become involved in the wider aspects of school life
  • Be able to meet the demands of the KS2 curriculum
  • Have excellent basic skills in English and Maths.
  • Be a highly skilled communicator.
  • Have a heart for children who need a lot of love
  • Motivate and encourage the pupil(s) as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils’ needs
  • Liaise with class teacher, SENDCO and other professionals about the pupil profile and/or Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate
  • Be consistent and effective when implementing agreed behaviour management and social communication strategies
  • Help to make appropriate resources to support the pupil
