This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in providing residents and visitors to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead with high performing services and a borough that people can be proud to live and work in. You will be an important member of the Council’s growing Environmental Services team sitting within the wider Neighbourhood Services.
There are a number of vacancies working across parks and countryside, cemeteries, public rights of way, waste and recycling collections and disposal and street cleansing services management. We are looking to strengthen the current team structure to manage key resident facing council services, with customer responsive applicants with a ‘can do’ attitude who will thrive in this varied and challenging environment. These are all services that keep the borough looking its best for our residents and visitors, including in the high profile town centre areas of Windsor, Maidenhead and Ascot, taking into account the high profile events and occasions that take place here and the high number of tourists to the area.
There are two posts within the Parks and Countryside Team. One post is the Parks and Open Spaces Manager, with responsibility for the borough’s 63 parks and open spaces, cemeteries, 315km of public rights of way and the contracts that look after these well used and loved areas. Reporting into the team manager, we are also looking for a Parks and Cemeteries Manager, responsible for the Borough’s cemeteries and closed Churchyards, including liaising with undertakers and bereaved families to arrange for funerals and interments to take place. This post also helps to monitor and manage the council’s grounds maintenance contract, to ensure that our parks and open spaces are in a great condition for residents and visitors to the borough to enjoy.
We are also looking to build an environmental services team, responsible for the borough’s waste and recycling collections and disposal and the street cleansing service. The borough recently moved to fortnightly waste collections with weekly recycling and food collections and we are looking to build on the increase in the recycling rate and the decrease in rubbish collected, while providing a great service to our residents. We are looking for a Recycling, Waste and Cleansing Contracts Manager to lead this team, two Environmental Services Officers to monitor the service, assist residents with any problems they have with the service and ensure that our contractors are completing their work to the high standard we expect. We are also looking for an Environmental Services Engagement officer to help us work with our local communities to increase the recycling rate and meet our climate change commitments, particularly in relation to the circular economy.
You’ll be working closely with members, communities, partner organisations, Council services and contractors to deliver services effectively and inclusively. An enthusiasm and passion for high quality services is an essential along with relationship management skills so you can engage others with what we have to offer.
The two teams help to support each other, so there will be an opportunity to work across both areas to ensure that we are delivering the best possible service.
There will be a requirement for all of these posts to spend time out and about in the borough across Windsor, Maidenhead and the wider borough. Other activities will mostly be remote working with requirements to attend the offices on occasion for meetings, training and collaborative working. We’ll need you to be able to drive and provide your own vehicle.
