Hertsmere is located in southern Hertfordshire – we are 13 miles from Central London and within the M25. We adjoin Greater London with excellent road and rail links making London and the Home Counties easily accessible. The Council Offices are situated in Borehamwood within Zone 6 and with a direct rail link into London Kings Cross St. Pancras. The area is an internationally renowned centre for film and television production, home to Elstree Studios (a council owned asset), as well as BBC Elstree and is the location for a proposed new studio development by Sky, due to be operational by 2022.
Hertsmere Borough Council is bringing forward an innovative growth programme delivered through a new Local Plan. We are working closely with our public and private sector partners to deliver new growth opportunities in our towns and villages. These additional posts will be key appointments within our Planning and Economic Development Service, given the scale of our ambition and expected growth.
As a key member of the Planning team you will play an important role in ensuring new development within Hertsmere is carefully controlled. The successful candidate will work with a small team delivering excellent planning enforcement outcomes set around a Green Belt environment.

Our career grade scheme applies to this post providing sponsorship for an RTPI accredited Planning qualification and enables accelerated pay increases and movement through the Council’s pay structure.
If you are looking to start your career in Planning Enforcement and want to undertake an RTPI accredited Planning course we will support you via an apprenticeship scheme. Applicants at this level can expect a starting salary of £25,979 per annum.
If you already have an appropriate qualification and relevant experience you can expect a starting salary of up to £33,563 per annum.
You will be degree qualified, ideally in Planning or a closely related discipline, and experience of implementing legislation would be desirable. You will need to be analytical with good judgment and able to work on your own initiative. Some knowledge of planning would be an advantage. This role can be physically demanding, candidates will need to meet the mobility requirements of the job.
The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).
Please note: The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to two days per week from home.
