Assistant Team Manager - Together for Families Team

Brighter Futures for Children

Full time, Permanent

About us

If you live here, work here or just visit, you will already know Reading is a great place and at Brighter Futures for Children we’re dedicated to making it even better. Key to this is ensuring our workforce is equipped for the challenge – this is where you come in.

It is an exciting time to join children’s services in Reading; we have recently transitioned into a new, independent, not-for-profit-company. We are now Brighter Futures for Children with our own Board of directors focused on delivering the best possible opportunities for the children of Reading.

About the role

This is a great career development opportunity where you will be able to lead a dedicated team to deliver a high- quality service in a specialized field.

Our Assistant Team Managers report directly to the Team Manager in their specific service and are responsible for the day to day operational running of their team. You will provide crucial direction and oversight in relation to cases and are responsible for high quality leadership. We are offering the opportunity to join a dynamic senior team who are committed to improving outcomes for children.

Together for Families (TFF) Service is an exciting new development for Brighter Futures for Children and has been introduced in order to improve services for children in Reading, and to help achieve the vision that is to help every child have a happy, healthy and successful life. Further to this, our service pay credence to the five underlying principles of trauma informed practice - safety, choice, empowerment, trust and collaboration.

There are 4 x Together for Families Teams within the Service, who will work with children during S.17 (Children Act, 1989) single assessments, S.47 child protection investigations, as well as working with children subject to CIN Plans, CP Plans and CLA. The expectation for all social workers within the TFFs is that children will remain allocated with their social worker for the duration of the child’s case being open for CIN/CP support.

This is to ensure the relational-based social work practice that is one of the key aims of the BFfC practice model, with much fewer transitions for children and their families. Support to families in the Service will also be provided via evidence informed and timely programme of support delivered via Family Support Workers and specialist adult practitioners in mental health and substance use – with the aim to ensure an effective trauma informed ‘whole family’ response to needs and risk for children.

About you

  • You will be able to successfully deliver the objectives of this role and lead a high performing and effective team
  • You will need to be a qualified social worker who is HCPC registered with at least three years substantial post qualification experience.
  • You will need to have some direct management experience within a statutory children’s social care service where you can demonstrate that you were able to effectively maximize the potential of others.

If you have the skills and experiences to work with us as an Assistant Team Manager and you are passionate about delivering a high-quality service, then we would be very interested to hear from you.

Our offer

We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.

A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 25 days holiday plus public holidays (rising to 32 after 10 years’ service)
  • Discounted Child Care (on site nursery)
  • Relocation Scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Season ticket loans
  • A range of local discounts
