This is a permanent full time (37 hours/week) position as a Senior Social Worker within the Specialist Community Disability Teams 25+ Pod, working with adults with a learning disability and/or autism. 

Brighton & Hove have completed an exciting restructure of its services for children and adults with learning disabilities to create a strong, whole life pathway service called the Specialist Community Disability Service.

The management of children’s and adults Specialist Community Disability Service has been merged within our Families, Children and Learning Directorate with two Heads of Service, one with responsibilities for aged 0-25 and the other for 25+. The Heads of Service have responsibility for three social work assessment teams or pods whose functions are differentiated by the ages 0-14, 14-25 and 25+.  This design provides service users with a more positive transition to adulthood

About the role

Specifically, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Social Worker with adult’s experience to work within the 25+ Pod.

We are a team which provides an exciting range of social work services to adults with disabilities as part of the whole life pathway. This includes the areas of duty and intake, undertaking care planning within a multi-disciplinary context through Care Act Assessment and review, appropriate application of the Mental Capacity Act and application of Deprivation of Liberty/Liberty Protection Safeguards. Undertaking Safeguarding Enquiries is also a key priority to keep individuals in the city safe.

The team also undertake applications to the Court of Protection and work with individuals as part of the Transforming Care Agenda using the Mental Health Act (although the successful candidate does not need to be a qualified AMHP). We are also involved in supporting adults with Direct Payments and Personal Budgets. The successful candidate would have to have a broad understanding of these issues and co-ordinate proportionate and timely assessments to meet identified outcomes for adults with a learning disability.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker
  • Be responsible for contributing to the Intake/ Duty Service rota to triage statutory demands and manage risk appropriately (including Section 42 work)
  • Be responsible for managing their own small caseload autonomously with the support of their supervisor/manager
  • Have the skills to work within an integrated multi-agency setting
  • Be able to support a service undergoing some exciting changes and developments
  • Have experience of supporting and supervising other staff and demonstrate an ability and willingness to develop these skills
  • Have good knowledge, skills and experience of statutory roles and responsibilities
  • Whilst prior experience of working with children, young people or adults with disabilities is not essential it would be an advantage
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in developing their knowledge and skills in relation to disabilities

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
