Hours: 37 hours per week full time

Base Location: Working from home and any CBC offices, including Thorn Turn Depot, Houghton Regis. You will be expected to attend a CBC office location on a monthly basis, and as needed to carry out your role required by the service

Contract Type:  Hybrid - Permanent

About the role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a modern, innovative team with Central Bedfordshire Council.  We are looking to strengthen our Highways Service through the appointment of a dedicated Traffic Manager. This is an exciting time to work in the council’s Highways Service, if you would like to help make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work, we would like to hear from you. 

You will work with the Head of Highways to support the delivery of the Highways Service. You will manage the Traffic Management Team including Road Safety and Streetworks functions. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding and have managed a team delivering Streetworks and road safety schemes.  Day-to-day, you will be able to deliver key improvements through; policy development, the implementation of traffic calming and road safety schemes, and assess the impact of traffic on the network using a data led approach. 

To join us you will have experience in a similar role, ideally with a traffic engineering/management background. You are organised and have in-depth knowledge of highway and traffic legislation and regulations including the Highways Act, the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions and the Traffic Management Act.  You can analyse statistical data, write policy and strategy documents, and enjoy completing tasks in a complex environment.  With this expertise, you’ll have the confidence to contribute, and your strong communication skills will be essential along with an organised, team-focused approach.
