Contract Officer (Revenues & Benefits)

The Revenues and Benefits Client Team at Bexley Council is looking to recruit a Contract Officer specialising in the quality checking of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support claims.

The Role:

You will be responsible for working with the other Contract Officers in the team to ensure that the legislated minimum 10% quality check of benefit assessments is completed daily. You will support the Principal Contract Officer in making improvements to the Benefits Service; for example by undertaking informal audits on specific high risk areas of benefits assessment work, raising any ongoing quality issues with the Principal Contract Officer for resolution with the Contractor, helping with the proposals for any future changes which may be required of the Council Tax Support scheme etc. You will also provide basic administrative support where needed in respect of other service areas under the contract; for example carrying out the approval of Direct Debit and BACS runs in the absence of the Principal Contract Officer, assisting with responding to complaints and Freedom Of Information requests etc.

If you are a subject matter expert within the discipline of Housing Benefit/Council Tax Support assessment, ideally with experience of quality checking these assessments, and a willingness to work as part of a team to meet changing priorities to help the service meet its objectives, we would be keen to hear from you.

If you have good IT skills, are conscientious, work well as part of a team and are able to manage changing work priorities – then you are the type of person we are looking for.

What we offer:

  • Career Average Revalued Earnings Pension Scheme
  • 24 days Annual Leave (rising to 27 days after 5 years’ service) plus Bank Holiday Entitlement
  • Annual Leave Purchase Scheme
  • An excellent working environment at our fantastic new offices
  • Opportunities for flexible working with excellent ICT facilities
  • MyChoice Staff Benefit Scheme – Includes Cycle to Work Scheme, access to high street shopping vouchers and online discount codes.
