Facilities Support Officer

Many of Lancaster’s most prominent and beautiful historic listed buildings are owned and managed by Lancaster City Council, such as Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls and The Storey.  Within the Facilities Management Team, the Facilities Support Officers are at the front line of caring for these buildings and their occupants; taking care of security, maintenance, health and safety, meeting set up, and supporting large scale functions and events.

As a Facilities Support Officer you will assist in all these aspects as well as being a key holder for our main sites.  Full training is given and no specific previous experience is required, although experience in customer facing roles, caretaking or maintenance would be beneficial.  We are looking for individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable.  The role involves interaction with members of the public, staff, Councillors, building tenants, and other building users.

This post is temporary. Your working hours will be 30 hours per week, working five out of seven days, arranged on a weekly basis to suit the needs of the service. This will include evenings and weekends and bank holidays.  You may all be required to work additional hours on occasion.  The post holder will also participate in the City Council’s out of hour’s standby scheme for emergency call outs to the buildings, for which there is an additional payment.

Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

We are a Forces Friendly employer, and an Armed Forces Covenant committed organisation. We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces community.
