What Works for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC) are funding a programme across multiple Local Authorities that provides supervision to Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) in Primary and/or Secondary Schools.
Following the publication of the report from Ofsted on sexual abuse in schools and colleges, funding was secured to expand the programme to also provide support for child sexual abuse in these settings. Hertfordshire County Council gained funding in 2021 to implement this project in its schools and due to its success, has achieved funding for a second year from September 2022.
The Consultant Social Workers provide reflective supervision to designated safeguarding leads in schools to improve their ability to managing all safeguarding issues within their settings, contributions to multi-agency working with children and families and the quality and robustness of referrals into children’s services.
The workers sit alongside Hertfordshire’s Child Protection School Liaison Officers.
