CDS is a unique organisation with an unusual mission – to provide, support and promote community led housing and co-operation – so that more people can shape the things that most matter to them.
We are a social landlord to more than 820 rented and shared ownership homes and we continue to be the largest service provider for housing co-ops in London and the South East, offering a menu of landlord and business services so they can thrive and remain independent.
This is an exciting time to join the Board at CDS. We are looking to deliver a more resident-centred and community led approach to how we provide and manage homes. At the same time, our organisation like so many others, is grappling with a widening gap between income and costs with the pressure of higher building safety, decent homes and environmental standards added to the general economic forecast for high inflation and market volatility. To help us boldly navigate these challenges, we are looking for new Board members who will help us hold fast to our mission and our ambition for community led housing whilst being realistic and determined in how we apply our residents to the task.
We are looking for up to three new Board members who will meaningfully contribute to broader Board decisions, as well as having skills and experience in one or more of the following:
• Senior level experience in housing or a deep understanding of sector and regulatory issues
• Business/strategic financial management skills
• Health & safety knowledge, experience or keen interest and understanding in this field

Our Board currently meets in the evening about 6 times a year. Most meetings are held online, but we
periodically also meet in our offices in Borough, just south of the City of London. We also hold an annual strategy day on a weekend and Board members are also required to join a committee, which typically meet quarterly. Whilst we provide an induction and periodic training to Board members, all Board members are expected to ensure they understand our business and to prepare for these meetings by reading, researching and questioning.
Board appointments are generally for a three-year term that can be renewed for a maximum of six years.
