A part time electoral services assistant is required, to work within the busy Electoral Services department, following the retirement of the current member of staff.
Your main duties will be working closely with the Electoral Services Officer and Electoral Services Manager to provide support for the elections, including processing absent voter applications, register to vote applications and assist with staffing and booking polling stations. You will assist with all aspects of monthly rolling registration and the annual canvass, liaising with our canvassers and help prepare and sort canvass forms for delivery to households across the borough.
You will have a proactive, flexible and organised approach to work and a willingness to learn and implement new procedures. Customer services skills are essential as your duties will bring you into contact with members of the public, colleagues across various departments, elected members, candidates, political parties and suppliers. Therefore, the ability to work in a calm and professional manner and develop good working relationships is essential.
Some knowledge of elections and electoral registration is desirable; as is the ability to use and update computer database systems. You will also have the ability, to deal with high volumes of work to meet tight deadlines, whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
This is a permanent, part time position, with an average working week of 25 hours. Most scheduled elections are in early May each year, so in the run up to an election, the workload increases significantly, and your working week would become full time in April and there is sometimes a requirement to work weekends. However, in quieter periods, we are very flexible with your working pattern and extra days off can be taken off or reduced hours worked.
Swale Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.
