Introduction
Cheshire West and Chester Leisure CIC (trading as Brio Leisure) is a wholly owned
company of Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Set up in 2011, the company is the ambitious and innovative face of community leisure. With
a mission to ensure that everyone in Cheshire West and Chester can live a happier,
healthier life with affordable access to great fitness and entertainment facilities, alongside
health and wellness services.
An exciting opportunity has opened for a highly talented and strategically minded individual
to join the Board as Chair.
Coming out of the global Covid-19 pandemic, we are eager to hear from people who have
considerable experience in the commercial leisure sector, public health and wellbeing and
specifically those who with experience in programmes of significant transformational change
and can demonstrate exceptional financial leadership. Additional skills include growing and
diversifying an organisation, strong approach to corporate governance and developing and
delivering key areas of strategy through inspirational board leadership.
In return, you will become part of a strong Board that is committed to making Brio Leisure an
exemplar company – blending commercial drive and delivery of social value outcomes. Brio
Leisure are a successful organisation and won UK Active Organisation of the Year in 2019.
The company was a member of the Parliamentary Review Panel in 2019 and more recently,
has been listed in the London Stock Exchange 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain.
The role will be for a period of 4 years and is subject to annual review based on performance
appraisal. You will be expected to commit to providing the equivalent of 2 to 3 days per
month, which includes attendance at quarterly scheduled Board meetings alongside other
meetings/engagement with the company alongside the Council as Shareholder on a regular
basis. Working arrangements will be discussed at interview.
In return, there is a remuneration of £12000 per annum and reasonable expenses will also
be paid.
The vacancy is as a result of the retiring Chair, and you will be required to take up the post in
November.
