We are investing in our Procurement Team and we are looking for candidates with a passion for improving the lives of our communities, with vision and the ability to work effectively with teams across the Council to achieve value for money, add social value and help us achieve our net zero commitment.
Your new role – Category Manager
We have exciting opportunities for this key role that will give you the opportunity to provide effective procurement advice and support to services across the Council taking the lead in a designated area as required. Supporting the Procurement Service Manager, you will develop policies, deliver and implement effective procurement strategies, that support the Council, Commissioners and individual services in making effective sourcing and procurement decisions. Working in the team as a Category Manager means supporting the successful delivery of challenging yet rewarding projects through the entire procurement cycle.
What you will need to succeed
The successful applicant will have a broad experience of procurement within a local government environment and a thorough understanding of local government procurement regulations. You will be passionate about delivering sustainability and championing social value whilst achieving a successful balance between both innovation and meeting corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
We’re looking for individuals who are CIPS qualified and have strong experience within a purchasing role. You’ll demonstrate knowledge of contract law and will have a successful track record of negotiating with external stakeholders. You’ll be conversant with procurement methodologies and techniques and proficient in completing research and market analysis.
You will require a comprehensive knowledge of up to date procurement law and practice and possess appropriate specialist knowledge procurement processes.
You will be technically competent with experience in delivering complex projects working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the Council. You will work with suppliers and develop strategies to ensure the Council is receiving the most efficient service terms while maintaining value and cost efficiency benefits.
