Are you an empathetic person with excellent customer services skills, looking for an interesting and varied role on the front line of a small Housing Advice team?

Then either of these roles could be the job for you. Working as a key part of the service, you would be assessing applicants under the Homelessness reduction Act 2017, Part VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Councils Allocations Policy, preventing homelessness and providing settled accommodation for the Boroughs residents. This is an exciting time to join the Housing Advice Team, with a large number of new social housing developments becoming available in the next six months. In these roles, you will be delivering some good news to our customers.

In order to be successful, you will be have a genuine interest in helping people, ideally with experience of working in a customer-facing role. Excellent verbal communication skills in fluent English are essential, as this role requires dealing with applicants who are experiencing very difficult circumstances in a sensitive manner, whilst managing their expectations. Good written, analytical and accuracy skills are very important, therefore a GCSE (or equivalent experience) in English and Maths are essential. If you have worked in a similar housing environment, it would be an advantage, although transferrable skills from other similar roles would be considered.

An understanding of homelessness laws will be helpful, as would working with vulnerable people, but full training will be given to the right candidate. A full driving license is essential

This role requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Check.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.
