The Council’s Technical Services department has responsibility for maintaining and providing advice for an extensive and diverse portfolio of both operational and non-operational premises. The portfolio consists of office buildings, leisure facilities, car parks, commercial premises, bereavement services buildings and social housing premises.

We are seeking an Assistant Building Surveyor to join our Capital Projects team. You will assist the team in ensuring that the Council’s assets are fit for purpose for staff, residents and visitors alike whilst striving to achieve our zero carbon target by 2030.

This is the opportunity to develop your skills as a Building Surveyor, by gaining first-hand experience of compiling and managing refurbishment and construction projects. Initially you will manage simple and low value contracts and will assist the team as required on the more complex projects. As you develop, we will tailor your workload to provide you with the experience needed to become a well-rounded Building Surveyor in line with the relevant APC competencies.

Projects and assignments will involve working with a varied team of professionals. You will need excellent time management and communication skills to deliver a high standard of service to our internal client base.

As gatekeeper for the drawings of our corporate buildings you will be organised, skilled in the use of AutoCAD and will demonstrate excellent attention to detail.

In return we offer a competitive salary, flexible working hours, generous leave entitlement and Local Government Pension Scheme (LPGS).

The role is best suited to an experienced Assistant Building Surveyor, a Building Surveying graduate or an APC candidate. Support is available to help progress your APC.

Staff are our most important asset and we therefore have a benefit package which reflects our continuing commitment to our employees.  This includes:

Generous leave entitlement; a minimum of 25 days + Bank Holiday entitlement

Local Government Pension

Standards of conduct must be of the highest level to ensure that no-one is harassed, bullied or victimised. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, staff engagement forums and are keen to hear from applicants from a variety of different backgrounds.
