Media and Communications Officer

Do you have experience of building effective relationships with the media? Perhaps you have a flair for creating innovative and engaging content for newsletters, websites and social media which can reach a wide and diverse audience?

We are looking for a candidate with strong media relations experience and proven professional writing skills to join our busy communications team as a media and communications officer.

The postholder will provide an effective and professional press office capability that handles all incoming media enquiries, coordinates responses, arranges broadcast interviews and monitors daily news coverage. They will be an excellent communicator who will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the council’s corporate management team and the cabinet.

The ability to quickly understand and interpret information relating to a wide range of subject matter and work under their own initiative, under pressure and to deadlines is essential, as is a sound understanding of working in a political environment.

Our council’s vision for the next ten years is to work with our communities to build a future for the people of Harborough district that gives them the best life chances and opportunities. The successful candidate will take a proactive approach to support the delivery of this vision with the promotion of council decisions, services and initiatives in line with the council’s priorities and help to protect and enhance the reputation of the council.

The council has an agile working policy and the postholder will be able to work from home if they wish, with some time in the office in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
