Communications Officer - (Ref: CO)
Salary up to £28,725
We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and dynamic self-starter to work within the Council’s small, but busy, communications team. You will undertake a wide range of interesting duties including liaising with local and national media, initiating and writing press releases, maintaining the Council’s website and supporting the Digital and Social Media Officer with content for the Council’s social media channels. You will also be responsible for leading on communications projects, creating and implementing targeted communications plans.
You will write articles and produce content for the media, social media, website and other communications channels, ensuring that it is factual, topical and concise. An element of the role will also include reviewing press and media activity, developing plans and approaches to continuously improve. You will also be on hand for any ad-hoc duties that may arise, supporting the Communications Manager. The role also includes occasional out-of-hours work; taking photos and representing the Council at various events.
You must be degree level educated and have one/ two years’ work experience within a communications/ public relations environment. You must have a passion for communications to help us engage effectively with our residents, businesses, staff and other stakeholders. The following skills and experience are also essential for this role:
- Good standard of written English and a meticulous eye for detail
- Experience of using website content management systems (CMS)
- IT literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Confident in delivering ideas to the rest of the team
- A full drivers’ licence is essential.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.
