Social Worker - Intensive Support Service

The starting salary for this position is £36,282 per annum hour based on a 36-hour working week.

The role is based at St Faiths, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 7NF. Although the position is currently based in Leatherhead it covers the county and will require some time being spent at a Residential setting in Woking.

As a Social Worker you will contribute to the delivery of a positive behaviour support approach Crisis Service, for children aged 4-18 with ASD/C and or LD with behaviours of concern.

You will bring a social care perspective to the work of the Children’s Crisis Intensive Support Service; developing an evidence-based analysis of the function the behaviour serves, developing support plans, and coaching to support a reduction in the behaviour of concern.

This is a new role within the team, created to support the development of our two beds in a residential home where children can stay for a period of assessment for up to 17 days. The role will involve coordinating admissions, completing assessments and working with staff at the residential setting to prepare the child and parents/carers for the child to return home or to placement.

Supporting and protecting children and young people with ASC/D and their families will be at the heart of all you do by providing a range of interventions including:

  • Consultation
  • Reflection
  • Joint case working
  • Participation in case reviews
  • Brief functional assessment
  • Care planning and intervention, including behaviour support plans

You will also be attending statutory meetings in relation to cases where your involvement would be beneficial.

You will use your excellent communication and engagement skills to ensure that the Children’s Crisis Intensive Support Service operates in a safe and efficient way, as part of the whole system of partnership and multi-agency working. Your commitment to partnership working will enable you to establish and promote key relationships.

You will play a crucial role in maintaining effective communication between local area children's social care teams, CAMHS and other agencies involved, whilst delivering a crisis intervention of up to 12 weeks in the community. You will be part of a specialist service working across the county in the community, delivering assessments whilst supporting and mobilizing the network and family to continue support following the crisis intervention.

  • Good communication and engagement skills
  • Knowledge/training in positive behaviour support framework
  • Evidence of effective partnership working
  • Delivering 1-1 interventions to young people 
  • Experience of working with Children and young people with ASC/D and or LD with challenging behaviour
  • Willingness to be flexible and work occasional evenings up till 10p.m as part of a 36-hour week and some on call to junior colleagues

The core hours of the role are Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm. There will be some evening/weekend hours required for the role as the team operates Monday – Friday, 2pm-10pm and Saturday, 9am-5pm.
