Festivals & Events Officer

We are looking for an officer with experience of festival and event management to be part of a thriving Arts and Events team. Tower Hamlets is a diverse and vibrant borough, and this role will play a key part in supporting the borough’s arts and cultural sector.

You will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of festivals and events in Tower Hamlets by organising the Council’s own events and facilitating external events with organisers and promoters, ensuring that they meet with the Council’s terms and conditions and any relevant legislative and statutory requirements (i.e. Licensing, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Health and Safety, Building Control and the Emergency Services). You will also be responsible for occasional management of casual staff and contractors.

A key priority for this role is the commercialisation of our parks and open spaces to generate revenue against savings targets and requires a candidate with commercial awareness of event, marketing and hospitality sectors.

Candidates should have a good level of event and project management experience, including budget management, financial procedures and procurement processes. You will be a good self-starter with an aptitude for problem-solving and attention to detail. You will have good communication skills, good networking skills and will be able to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Additional Details

Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.

Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.

We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough.

This post will report directly to the Arts & Events Manager. This is a permanent full-time post and job-sharing would be considered.
