Building Control Surveyor

The Vacancies:

We have exciting positions for suitably qualified and experienced Building Control professionals. If you consider yourself suited to the role of a District Building Control Surveyor we’d love to hear from you.

Why Manchester:

Manchester is often ranked as one of the best cities in the world to live within international media circles, with ‘nightlife’, ‘creativity’, ‘community spirit’, ‘friendliness’ and ‘getting to know your neighbours’ top of the list. We are home to the UK’s largest indoor arena, its second largest international airport, major sporting venues, great public transport options, and is right in the heart of the nation’s motorway network. On our doorstep are National Parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty and stunning coastlines. Within the City, our 555,000+ residents live in every kind of housing from modern residential skyscrapers, traditional Victorian terraced neighbourhoods, to leafy suburban districts.

The Building Control Service in Manchester has a key role to play in the evolution of our City, making sure developments are high-quality, safe, inclusive, and sustainable. If you share Manchester’s clear ambitions in delivering high quality developments, and safe and secure environments in the city, we want to hear from you.

If you’re successful, you’ll join a team of Building Control professionals pushing forward a high standard of healthy, safe, sustainable, and accessible buildings within the City.

About You:

You’ll be able to show that you have knowledge and experience of Building Control, with particular emphasis on the scrutiny of designs and inspection of work across the full spectrum of the construction industry, gained within either a Local Authority or Approved Inspector setting. You will be able to contribute to our service delivery and manage your own workload without day-to-day supervision, across all types of construction projects, from small domestic to complex commercial schemes.

Ideally you will be a chartered member of an appropriate Building Control related professional organisation (e.g. CABE, RICS, CIOB), but if you are still working towards this, and have suitable experience, we’d still love to hear from you.

What you can expect from us…

  • A competitive salary up to £44,496 (depending on qualifications and experience; pay review pending). This includes an additional market supplement which is reviewed periodically and is non-contractual.
  • Monthly essential-user car allowance of £83.65 (1000cc +vehicle) plus a per-mile allowance for all business miles travelled.
  • A fully funded city-centre car parking space.
  • A generous financial reward for each week you take part in the out-of-hours standby rota, including a minimum weekly allowance of £424.80 plus fixed allowances and overtime payments for any incidents attended.
  • Professional membership subscriptions paid (e.g. CABE, RICS, CIOB, etc.)
  • A generous annual leave entitlement of up to 30 days paid leave (plus bank holidays) after a qualifying period of local government service and the ability to purchase an additional 10 days leave for full time employees.
  • A flexible approach to working arrangements to help you achieve a greater work/life balance, including a 35-hour working week, and flexitime scheme which permits accrued hours to be taken as additional “flexi-leave” days.
  • A great working environment within the stunning Town Hall offices, right in the heart of the city, plus a pragmatic approach to home-working.
  • We will help you develop your career by providing development and support whatever your level of experience.
  • A host of health & wellbeing benefits – e.g. Employee Assistance Programme, gym discounts and Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution into a defined benefit pension, with life cover and the option to build additional voluntary contributions via salary sacrifice arrangements.
  • Up to 3 days (paid) volunteering leave for rewarding work opportunities within the city & community.

This role is predominately fixed based. You will be required to work from specific locations. This could be because you use specialist equipment or because you work with the public from a fixed location. You may work from more than one fixed location and you would usually have a dedicated workspace or team area. Your hours and times of work may be more flexible depending on the type of role you have.

For an informal discussion, or to find out more about the role, please email or call Scott Bonham, on 07958157087,
