Best Interests Assessor

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months


Are you a qualified Best Interest Assessor, who is passionate about protecting the rights of vulnerable people to make their own decisions? Could you determine what is in someone’s Best Interests even when they are putting themselves at risk? Would you feel confident in challenging established professional viewpoints? Do you enjoy navigating complex work and systems, in relation to people’s Human Rights? If this sounds like you, the Mental Capacity & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA & DoLS) Team has an exciting opportunity for a full time Best Interest Assessor.


It is an exciting time to become part of the MCA & DoLS team, with the opportunity to use your knowledge and passion to be involved in team development, building new ways of working and best practice in MCA & DoLS, as we move towards the new Code of Practice and implementation of LPS.


You should possess good working knowledge of the relevant legislation, guidance and process and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be a qualified Best Interests Assessor and have an active social work, nurse, occupational therapist, or psychologist registration. This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
