By working as a Music Therapist and /or a Wellbeing Practitioner for North Somerset Music Service, you will be part of a team delivering music therapy and wellbeing sessions to children, young people and their families and adults across North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset. Our music therapists and wellbeing practitioners sit alongside our associate music teacher colleagues as part of our music service which offers a wide range of services to support musical engagement and enrichment.

As a Music Therapist you will:

  • Work with clients using music therapy to support their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.
  • Undertake all aspects of the therapy process from referral of a new client, the assessment and ongoing weekly therapy work both shorter and long term
  • record all therapeutic interventions, take clinical notes, meet organisational and HCPC professional standards, protocols and guidelines and write professional reports
  • Work towards agreed therapeutic goals and outcomes through the delivery of music therapy
  • Liaise effectively with families, carers and other health professionals
  • Undertake your own clinical supervision to support your work
  • have the capacity to travel efficiently to a range of workplaces. You will be willing to sometimes travel to more than one setting in a day.
  • be part of a therapy service that places inclusivity, equality and diversity at the heart of its delivery.
  • Be supported by the Team lead; be part of termly team meetings, peer supervision and group improvisation

As a Music Therapist, you will have:

  • Masters level degree or equivalent qualification in Music Therapy
  • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council and certificate to practice
  • Diploma standard or equivalent in at least one musical instrument
  • Ability to work with trauma and emotional impact through supervision and team support
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with clients covering a diverse range of needs

Successful candidates will be invited to join our bank of music therapists and / or wellbeing practitioners and will be offered work on a variable hours basis when it becomes available. We pay based on an hourly rate. Team members can claim a percentage of travel expenses and are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

 

As a Music & Wellbeing practitioner you will:

 

  • Facilitate group music and wellbeing (mental health and emotional wellbeing) sessions
  • Lead small group and larger class music and wellbeing projects: children, young people or adults
  • Enthuse others to use music creatively in their setting, modelling activities to support positive mental health

As a Music & Wellbeing practitioner you will have:

  • Experience working with children and adults in different community &/or education settings
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience of group and community music work – using music with and in front of others
  • Experience, interest and desire to help others using music
  • Experience, knowledge of or interest in wellbeing concepts and current thinking
  • Experience being creative with music and thinking outside the box – improvising, composing, using music tech. / recorded music etc as well as playing music
