Casual Learner Support Worker - New Directions College

New Directions College are seeking inspiring Learner Support Workers to support learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to access learning.

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council’s Community Learning and Skills service. This year we’re celebrating 65 years of Adult Learning in Reading.


We’re a small friendly College delivering adult education and skills to over 3000 learners and Apprentices each year, directly and through our subcontractors and partners.

About the Role:

Are you seeking a flexible, part time, term time role where you can make a difference to local people’s lives?  

The Learner Support Worker roles are offered on a part time, sessional basis for between 4 to 16 hours per week, during college opening hours (Monday to Friday).

Would you like to support local adults with their learning and helping them develop further?

New Directions College is committed to widening participation and inclusive learning and to support learners who need help accessing the curriculum.

Learner Support Workers will support tutors by helping meet the needs of individual or small group of learners, currently this will be predominantly face to face but may include some online support.

The post holders will be working with a range of learners with identified additional needs which may include physical or sensory impairment, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Aspergers, Mental Health difficulties and brain injuries.

These roles would suit individuals with a caring, warm personalities who are patient and are able to motivate learners and have the ability to liaise with the class tutor and other members of staff.

Learner Support Workers will have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English or equivalent. The post holder should be ICT proficient with a Level 2 qualification in ICT or equivalent.
