Principal Conservation Officer

We have created the position of Principal Conservation Officer to lead on providing specialist built heritage and conservation advice to all aspects of the Planning Service. You will be the lead officer on built heritage, providing advice on a range of proposals, from works to listed buildings to guiding pre-application discussions on largescale major housing and commercial schemes that have the potential to affect the historic character of the district.

You will be joining us at a time whereby we are planning for a significant number of new homes, with the possibility of creating entire new communities, and have a significant influence on the future of the district.

You will have experience of working as a local authority or consultant conservation or heritage officer, preferably including major development experience. You will bring your excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence negotiations and provide advice to planners, elected Members and developers, and an excellent knowledge of conservation design and planning and listed building legislation.

This role would be ideal for someone with a relevant degree, is a member, or eligible for membership of the RTPI, RIBA or IHBC and wants to advance their career by working on a wide range of projects small and large.
